We’ve all heard some horror stories.
When someone decides to re-do their house or build an add-on, the typical route involves working with two (or more) different companies. One company does the design, then that design goes out to a completely different construction company, who then executes the design. It should be easy, in theory, but it’s not always that way.
One of the biggest issues when working with two separate companies is communication. The design company and construction company need to stay in contact with each other as things are constantly being changed and updated during the renovation process. There’s a lot of paperwork involved, and if the two companies haven’t worked together before, or don’t have a go-to person, projects can get held up while someone figures out what’s supposed to be happening.
Another concern is that the companies may not agree. The construction company may discover something in the designs that they can’t make happen, but the design company may insist. Sometimes, there’s a personality clash. This shouldn’t happen, but unfortunately it can also jeopardize your project. If it’s your home, that’s a big deal.
A good way to eliminate these issues is to find a company that can do both design and construction. When everything is kept under the same umbrella, it makes things so much easier. Don’t be a horror story.
